Jimmy Ang is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of T1 Combatives, bringing together experience from Special Operations, combatives development, martial arts, combat sports and tactical training.
As T1's Chief Executive Officer, Jimmy leads the company's overall direction and training philosophy while remaining actively involved in the development and delivery of its programmes.
Jimmy previously served as an operator within Singapore's Special Operations Force (SOF), where he was subsequently appointed Head of Combatives.
During his time in the role, Jimmy worked to evolve the unit's approach to unarmed combat, placing greater emphasis on grappling, physical control and pressure-tested fighting skills while accounting for the realities of weapons, equipment, teammates and the wider tactical environment.
His military training, appointments and qualifications include:
Jimmy also served in several instructional appointments throughout his military career, including:
His experience as both an SOF operator and combatives instructor gave Jimmy the opportunity not only to develop and pressure-test combatives concepts within a Special Operations environment, but also to teach and develop personnel across different levels of experience.
This experience would later become one of the foundations upon which T1 Combatives was developed. His experience within Special Operations, particularly his time overseeing combatives within SOF, would later become one of the foundations upon which T1 was developed.
Jimmy has trained across multiple martial arts and combat sports, with a strong emphasis on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and submission grappling, alongside experience in Boxing and Muay Thai.
He remains an active competitor, regularly putting his skills to the test in both Gi and No-Gi competition. This continued involvement in competitive martial arts reflects his belief that fighting ability must be developed against genuine resistance rather than through technical knowledge alone.
His martial arts credentials and competitive achievements include:
Jimmy also serves as a Committee Member and helps in teaching at Ikigai Judo School, continuing to develop his Judo alongside his broader grappling and combatives training.
Competition remains an important part of his development. Beyond medals and results, it provides an environment where timing, technique, decision-making and composure are continuously tested against opponents who are actively trying to impose their own game.
This principle carries directly into T1's approach to combatives: skills should be tested, challenged and refined under resistance.
Beyond his operational and competitive background, Jimmy remains actively involved in coaching and physical development.
His experience and qualifications include:
His involvement in coaching complements his experience developing and delivering combatives training, with an emphasis on breaking complex skills into adaptable principles that can be understood, practised and progressively tested under resistance.
After leaving the Special Forces, Jimmy wanted to continue developing the ideas and lessons that had shaped his approach to combatives during his time within SOF.
He approached his former SOF teammate Kevin, who had been recognised within the unit as one of its more accomplished martial artists and had continued his development as a Jiu-Jitsu and fitness coach after leaving the force.
Together, they began developing what would eventually become T1 Combatives.
Despite their Special Operations backgrounds and existing martial arts experience, Jimmy and Kevin recognised that their own experience represented only one perspective. They wanted to look beyond what they already knew and understand how established combatives programmes were being developed and implemented internationally.
This led them to Australia, where they trained directly under former Australian Special Forces soldier and founder of Kinetic Fighting, Paul Cale, further developing their understanding of military combatives through Kinetic Fighting – Integrated Combatives (KEF-IC).
Under Paul Cale and the Kinetic Fighting system, Jimmy achieved the rank of Brown Belt in Army Combatives and qualified as a Certified Army Combatives Instructor.
The experience reinforced a philosophy that continues to shape T1 today: martial arts and combat sports provide an invaluable foundation for fighting, but operational combatives must account for a much broader tactical problem involving weapons, equipment, teammates, environment and mission objectives.
As Chief Executive Officer, Jimmy leads T1's strategic direction, training philosophy and continued development as a tactical training and consultancy company specialising in combatives.
Drawing upon his experience as a former Special Operations operator and Head of Combatives, together with his continued involvement in martial arts and combat sports, Jimmy works alongside Kevin and the T1 team to develop training that bridges martial arts, combatives and the wider tactical environment.
Through T1, Jimmy has led and delivered training for military, law enforcement and specialised operational personnel both in Singapore and overseas, with programmes adapted around the requirements, equipment and operational context of those being trained.
He continues to actively train, compete and develop alongside the people he instructs, maintaining the same principle that helped shape T1 from its beginning:

This background gives Kevin particular strength not only in physical performance and technical knowledge, but also in coaching, structuring training and developing individuals across different experience levels.
When Jimmy approached Kevin about forming T1, both shared the belief that martial arts and combat sports provided an invaluable foundation for fighting, but that applying those skills within military and law-enforcement environments required a deeper understanding of combatives as an integrated tactical discipline.
Despite their Special Operations backgrounds and existing martial arts experience, Jimmy and Kevin recognised the importance of looking beyond what they already knew.
Together, they travelled to Australia to train directly under former Australian Special Forces soldier and Kinetic Fighting founder Paul Cale, further developing their understanding of military combatives through Kinetic Fighting – Integrated Combatives (KEF-IC).
Under Paul Cale and the Kinetic Fighting system, Kevin achieved the rank of Black Belt, 1st Dan in Army Combativesand qualified as a Certified Army Combatives Instructor.
The experience further reinforced an approach that continues to shape T1 today: combatives is not simply a collection of striking or grappling techniques, but part of a broader tactical system involving weapons, equipment, teammates, environment and operational objectives.
As Chief Technical Officer, Kevin plays a key role in the development, refinement and technical standards of T1's training methodology.
Drawing upon his experience as a Special Operations leader, military instructor, competitive martial artist, martial arts coach and physical training professional, Kevin works alongside Jimmy and the T1 team to ensure that training remains technically sound, adaptable and capable of functioning under genuine resistance.
Through T1, Kevin has contributed to the training of military, law enforcement and specialised operational personnel both in Singapore and overseas.
Together with Jimmy, he continues to develop and refine T1's methodology through ongoing training, competition, instruction and exposure to different systems and operational perspectives.
Systems and concepts. Real resistance. Proven under pressure.
